QUANDO TRANSPORTES PÚBLICOS E PAISAGISMO TRABALHAM JUNTOS / WHEN PUBLIC TRANSPORTS AND LANDSCAPING WORK TOGETHER

Eizan Dentetsu, Kyoto

It is a Y shaped line departing from Demachiyanagi in the Northeast of Kyoto.  The stretch that called my attention is the one to Kurama in an extension of 8.8km. Connects Kyoto to a temple, going through suburbs, serving a population in their daily commuting. Nothing special until now. But after the junction the line goes through a forest, mainly of acer palmatun, in Japanese shigitatsu saws, a tree that in autumn the leaves turn into a gold red colour. The team in charge of the project was not insensitive to this beauty, the ecological footprint of the track is minimal and the surroundings are lit to enhance the autumn colours. Something that should be just another commuter turns into an attraction, leading the inhabitants of Kyoto to take a tram ride just to appreciate the beauty of nature.

Not at all a usual thing.
